If you are fishing for Salmon or Sea Trout you’ll need a special licence, which covers all standard fishing too.
For short trips and ‘one-offs’ you can get a 1 or 8 day rod licence. Or get a one year licence to fish all year round. Remember – all annual licences expire on 31 March each year.
- Senior – for ages 65+
- Junior – for ages 12 to 16 inclusive
- Disabled – for people in receipt of Disability Living Allowance (or Personal Independence Payment) and Blue Badge Holders. NB: you will need your National Insurance number or Blue Badge number for your concession.
If you are fishing for coarse fish with 3 or 4 rods you need to buy a second licence and make sure you carry both licences with you when you go fishing.
Make sure you are fishing legally. Any angler aged 12 or over, fishing for salmon, trout, freshwater fish, smelt or eels in England ( except the river Tweed), Wales and the Border Esk (and its tributaries in Scotland) must have an Environment Agency Rod Fishing Licence. You can buy this at the Post Office.
Stay on the right side of the law – every year thousands of anglers are prosecuted for not having a fishing licence. Don’t ruin your fun by getting caught out too!
Come and buy your licence from Smarden Post Office and you can get fishing right away.
